Chemical bonding: compare question

Compare5 marksStandard

The hydroxonium ion, HX3OX+\ce{H3O+}, forms when a hydrogen ion, HX+\ce{H+}, bonds to a water molecule, HX2O\ce{H2O}. Compare the bond formed between the oxygen atom and the added HX+\ce{H+} with the two O-H covalent bonds already present in the water molecule. Refer to how each type of bond is formed and to how the two types of bond would be represented in a dot-and-cross diagram.

How this question is marked

5 marks, so the mark scheme is looking for about 5 separate creditworthy points. Making the same point twice in different words earns it once.

Compare means: Give similarities or differences between two things, and say which side each point belongs to. Write each point as a pair, for example: A is X, whereas B is Y. Two separate descriptions rarely earn the marks.
