Polymerisation: describe question

Describe5 marksChallenge

A polyester and a polyamide are both condensation polymers. A particular polyamide is formed when a diamine, HX2N−CHX2CHX2CHX2CHX2−NHX2\ce{H2N-CH2CH2CH2CH2-NH2}, reacts with a dioyl chloride, ClOC−CHX2CHX2CHX2CHX2−COCl\ce{ClOC-CH2CH2CH2CH2-COCl}.

Describe the formation of this polyamide, and deduce the repeat unit of the polymer.

How this question is marked

5 marks, so the mark scheme is looking for about 5 separate creditworthy points. Making the same point twice in different words earns it once.

Describe means: Say what happens or what something is like, in order and with detail. You are not being asked why. If there is data, quote it: name the trend, then give figures with units at the points where it changes.
