A student investigated the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis in the aquatic plant Elodea. The plant was placed in a beaker of water at 20 °C with a constant concentration of dissolved carbon dioxide. A lamp was placed at different distances from the beaker, and the number of bubbles released per minute was counted as a measure of the rate of oxygen production. The results are shown in the table.
| Distance from lamp (cm) | Bubbles per minute |
|---|---|
| 60 | 4 |
| 50 | 6 |
| 40 | 9 |
| 30 | 14 |
| 20 | 18 |
