Equilibria: compare question

Compare5 marksStandard

Ammonia is manufactured by the Haber process:

NX2(g)+3 HX2(g)⇌2 NHX3(g)\ce{N2(g) + 3H2(g) <=> 2NH3(g)}

The reaction is at dynamic equilibrium in a closed system at constant temperature.

A small amount of ammonia gas is added to the equilibrium mixture, keeping the temperature and the volume of the container constant.

Compare the rate of the forward reaction with the rate of the reverse reaction immediately after the addition, and explain how the system responds to the addition. Include in your answer what is meant by dynamic equilibrium.

How this question is marked

5 marks, so the mark scheme is looking for about 5 separate creditworthy points. Making the same point twice in different words earns it once.

Compare means: Give similarities or differences between two things, and say which side each point belongs to. Write each point as a pair, for example: A is X, whereas B is Y. Two separate descriptions rarely earn the marks.
