Cell structure: compare question

Compare6 marksChallenge

An electron micrograph of a eukaryotic cell reveals the following organelles: a large permanent vacuole, chloroplasts, a cell wall, centrioles, and mitochondria. A student viewing the micrograph claims that the cell must be a plant cell.

Evaluate this claim, and then compare the typical features of a plant cell with those of an animal cell. Do not include viruses in your answer.

How this question is marked

6 marks, so the mark scheme is looking for about 6 separate creditworthy points. Making the same point twice in different words earns it once.

Compare means: Give similarities or differences between two things, and say which side each point belongs to. Write each point as a pair, for example: A is X, whereas B is Y. Two separate descriptions rarely earn the marks.
