Photosynthesis: predict question

Predict4 marksStandard

A student investigated the effect of light intensity on the rate of photosynthesis using a suspension of isolated chloroplasts and the redox indicator DCPIP. DCPIP is blue when oxidised and becomes colourless when reduced. The student measured the time taken for DCPIP to become completely colourless at different light intensities. The results are shown in the table.

Light intensity (lux)Time for complete decolourisation (minutes)
20025
50010
10005
15005
20005

The experiment was conducted at 20°C. The student now wishes to repeat the experiment at a light intensity of 1000 lux but at 30°C.

Predict the time for complete decolourisation at 1000 lux and 30°C. Explain your reasoning.

How this question is marked

4 marks, so the mark scheme is looking for about 4 separate creditworthy points. Making the same point twice in different words earns it once.

Predict means: Say what you expect to happen, using the information given. State the outcome clearly first. If marks remain, add the reason that leads to it.
