Reaction kinetics: compare question

Compare6 marksChallenge

Two experiments are set up for the reaction between aqueous NaX2SX2OX3\ce{Na2S2O3} and aqueous HCl\ce{HCl}. In experiment 1, the concentration of NaX2SX2OX3\ce{Na2S2O3} is doubled while the volume and the concentration of HCl\ce{HCl} are kept the same. In experiment 2, the pressure of a gaseous reaction is doubled by compressing the mixture to half its volume at constant temperature.

Compare the effect of doubling the concentration of NaX2SX2OX3\ce{Na2S2O3} in experiment 1 with the effect of doubling the pressure in experiment 2, in terms of the frequency of effective collisions.

How this question is marked

6 marks, so the mark scheme is looking for about 6 separate creditworthy points. Making the same point twice in different words earns it once.

Compare means: Give similarities or differences between two things, and say which side each point belongs to. Write each point as a pair, for example: A is X, whereas B is Y. Two separate descriptions rarely earn the marks.
