Forces and equilibrium: calculation question

2 marksStandard

A particle of mass 3 kg lies on a rough horizontal plane. The coefficient of friction between the particle and the plane is 0.3. The particle is on the point of moving when a horizontal force is applied. Find the magnitude of the limiting friction force acting on the particle. (Take g = 10 m/s2^{2}.)

  1. (a)

Calculate the limiting friction force in newtons.

How this question is marked

2 marks. Method marks are awarded for correct working even if the final answer is wrong, and a later part can still score if it correctly uses an earlier wrong answer.
