Cell structure: describe question

Describe5 marksChallenge

The table below provides descriptions of five structures found in eukaryotic cells. For each structure (A–E), identify the organelle or cell structure and describe its function.

StructureDescription
AA double-membrane bound organelle found in all eukaryotic cells. It contains small circular DNA molecules and 70S ribosomes. The inner membrane is folded into cristae.
BA double-membrane bound organelle found in plant cells. It contains small circular DNA molecules and 70S ribosomes. It contains thylakoid membranes where light-dependent reactions occur.
CA network of membrane-bound tubes and sacs continuous with the nuclear envelope. The outer surface is studded with 80S ribosomes.
DA non-membrane bound structure composed of RNA and proteins, located within the nucleus.
EA small cylindrical organelle found in animal cells, composed of a ring of nine triplets of microtubules.

How this question is marked

5 marks, so the mark scheme is looking for about 5 separate creditworthy points. Making the same point twice in different words earns it once.

Describe means: Say what happens or what something is like, in order and with detail. You are not being asked why. If there is data, quote it: name the trend, then give figures with units at the points where it changes.
